It’s Valentine’s Day – the ‘most romantic day in the world’. However popular this opinion may be, many people disagree. Many people would rather forget the existence of this day. For those of you who fall into the latter, here are five things to do to avoid Valentine's Day:
FORZA GAME NIGHT
If you are a casual gamer, or if you just enjoy racing games, head over to Arcade Empire tonight at 7pm for game night. Entrance is free, but you must enter before 8pm. First prize for the winner is two double tickets to Arcade’s Lush pre-party next Saturday, featuring Hellcats, Miagii, and Shadowclub. The specials of the night are: all you can eat sliders for R100, and buy one get one free jamjars.
To avoid going out and seeing the Valentine’s Day decorations and loved-up couples, stay in and order your favourite take-out. You get bonus points if they deliver. Team up with a friend, and use their referral code to get R90 off. Domino’s Pizza is also having a special: 50% off all pizzas ordered online.
SETTLE DOWN WITH NETFLIX
This plan pairs perfectly with number two. Settle down on the couch with a glass of wine or a beer, and let the binge watching begin. There are new shows for every mood. A must-see is Santa Clarita Diet: a carefully constructed combination of Drew Barrymore and zombies. Stranger Things also comes highly recommended. If you are in the mood for British comedy, try Fresh Meat or Bad Education. If you are looking for something a little more serious, Breaking Bad can never go wrong.
Jolly Roger is having an event they call ‘The Bass-ment’, with a line-up of trap, drum and bass, and hip hop artists such as Reverse and Dean Lamprecht. Entrance is R20, and don’t forget the Jolly Hour between 6pm and 7pm.
You can never go wrong with a good old-fashioned, themed movie night. Be it the Bridget Jones films, Star Wars, or Harry Potter, it always wins. Make some popcorn, grab your favourite pillow and your best friends, and binge. Themed foods, such as butterbeer (which is a simple mix of caramel sauce, Iron Brew, and vanilla ice cream), are optional – but always worth the effort.
